Green power plants – an overview
Green power plants is a frequent term employed to describe power plants that manufacture green energy. It may also be employed to describe power plants that are environmentally friendly, thru checking their emissions and their wastes etc. Plants that manufacture green power may be of various types the most mutual one amongst them being the hydroelectric plant. Let us take a closer look at this power plant.
The concept
A hydro power station is one that formulates electricity using the strength and down flow of water. Green power plants like these have a reservoir and a dam attached to it. The water is let out of the dam where it falls underneath onto turbines that are attached to a generator. The strength of the water moves the turbines creating power. The quantity of power formulated is directly proportionate to the height that the water falls from.
Advantages
Green power plants that are based on hydroelectricity have great advantages. It is these salient features that make them a frequent choice for environmentally friendly power. The largest advantage of a plant such as this is the fact that no natural fuel or fossil fuel like coal is required to run it. A plant like this completely eliminates the use of such fuels thereby not adding to the already depleting resources of the planet. Another great advantage of a hydroelectric plant is the fact that it does not emit any green house gases like carbon dioxide as an example.
Disfavors
Green power plants do not necessarily have only advantages. There are disfavors affiliated with them as well. To begin with dams may be a source of hazards peculiarly for the duration of times of war etc. Where they become easy targets. Silt collection in the dams because of the rivers may reduce its storage area. Even thought dams are a great source for hydro power supply studies have shown that they do tend to disturb the ecology surrounding it.
